Understanding the tones you hear
In many countries the ringing tone, which is a single long signal repeated at regular intervals, sounds much like our engaged tone. The
overseas engaged tone often is a short signal repeated rapidly.
A double ring, repeated regularly (same as Namibian ring tone)

Equal length on/off tones (same as Namibian engaged tone)
B
Long equal on/off tones (slower than Namibian engaged tone)
C
Short equal on/off tones (faster than Namibian engaged tone)
D
Tones separated by longer pauses.
E
Long tones separated by shorter pauses.
